As a Senior Consulting Engineer at Modality Solutions, Eryn Castaneda leads the design and execution of innovative cold chain engineering strategies that enable biopharmaceutical companies to build validated, compliant, and resilient supply chains. She brings specialized expertise in transport validation, risk management, and root cause failure analysis, supporting clients across a broad range of regulatory and technical challenges.
Eryn’s expertise in cold chain logistics has aided in the end-to-end supply chain validation for small molecules, mAbs, and gene therapies. When it comes to supply chain validation, Eryn conducts in-depth risk evaluations, defines targeted mitigation plans, assesses OQ study data for compliance and robustness, provides strategic guidance on thermal shipper selection, and architects PQ protocol frameworks aligned with regulatory expectations. She also has experience in the design and optimization of distribution facilities for cell therapies, gene therapies, and other biologics.
In addition to her consulting work, Eryn is an active member of the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy (ISCT), where she serves as the Early Stage Professional (ESP) on the Cold Chain working group. She recently hosted a roundtable at the ISCT 2025 conference, highlighting the importance of process control in cryopreservation using controlled rate freezers, the customization of freezing protocols for different cell types and container formats, and the emerging role of advanced, label-free post-thaw analytics in ensuring product quality and functionality.
Eryn holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
